El Raval. Previously the hospital capital of Barcelona and the Barrio Chino (Chinese neighborhood) until the mid-19th century. Now shed of its textile mill and work house image. A multicultural area with its own special brand of international fusion. Location: Ciutat Vella Sites of Interest: Rambla del Raval. Centre de Cultura Contemporània. Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA).
The three Chimneys. Tres Xemeneies. Located in the gardens of Poble sec provides an excellent example of industrial architecture toward the end of the nineteenth, to the beginning of the 20th century. Between February and March in the year 1919 the site became a pawn in the Catalan workers movement. Location: Sants-Montjuïc.
Sala-Apolo. Considered the principle music venue of Barcelona. Hosts two forward thinking spaces comprising of an old style theatre with plenty of charm. Also a modern venue dedicated to maximum sound distribution. Both with cinema spaces. Accompanying acts who have graced the stage include. The Prodigy. The Cinematic Orchestra. Plus many more... Sant Pau del Camp. A monastery originally located outside the protection of the city walls. Possibly constructed around the 9th centaury. The magnificent cloister of the monastery displays monumental arches of Muslim influence unique to Europe. Construction estimated: (911). Founder of the Monestry: Count Wilfred II. Awarded: National Monument (1879).
